Gabriel Lanzi is an Argentinian builder of custom basses, guitars and amplifiers. The Lanzi brand was started as a hobby in the 1960s by Gabriel's father Alfredo Lanzi (an Electronic Engineer). Gabriel uses his training in industrial design to blend aesthetics, ergonomics and good sound in all his instruments. Some examples are the Lanzi Telecarla - a twist on the telecaster design and the Les Pablo - his take on the Les Paul.

The Marlin brand was used by British Music Strings Ltd in the 1980s on a range of Korean made electrics and acoustics. The Marlin sidewinder was the best selling guitar in the UK from 1986 to 1988 - its secret was acceptable quality at a low price. BMS owner George Ozstreich was the pioneer of importing Korean made guitars into the UK. The Marlin guitars supremacy did not last however as other manufacturers like Fender switched production of their budget brands to Korean factories.

Cast aluminum guitar with built in amplifier

The Tokai Talbo Junior introduced in 2000 was an interesting variant on the Tablo design. The outline of the cast aluminum body is the familiar Talbo shape - but the top of the body and horns are just a frame. It also has a built in amplifier with a speaker under the strings where a sound hole would be.

Made in Poland

This Polish made Defil classical guitar from the early 1960s has some interesting variations on the traditional classical design.  The headstock has no slots and has the square white plastic tuner buttons seen on some Defil electric models. This model has a zero fret and large white block inlays. The fingerboard & bridge look to be made from a light coloured non-traditional woods.

Thanks to Wiebe for the photos - if anyone has any more information about these guitars please add comments below.

Body made from Wah Pedal Case

The Vox Winchester is a rare English made electric guitar which has a wah pedal body bolted to a guitar neck. There were a series of three of these style guitars (Repeater, Bushwhacker, and Winchester - named after guns) all were made in 1967 only. All three had a different electronic effect built in but none was commercially successful. As few as 12 may have been produced in total.

Mystery Brand Sting Guitar

A guitar-list reader sent in this picture of his guitar. Does anyone recognise the brand logo? It looks like a Hondo "The Sting" guitar - probably made in the same factory but distributed under a different brand name. The Sting guitars were relatively cheap in the 1980s but can change hands for over $900 now - due to their rarity and cool shape.

The Davoli Polyphon has a similar curvy body shape to the Brigitte Bardot hollow-body model: both were designed in the 1960s by Wandre. The Polyphon has  typical Wandre/Davoli hardware including an aluminium neck  pickups, bridge and vibrato. There were a number of variations in the Polyphon - some have 3-per side machineheads, and you can see variations in the pickups, switches and controls. It's difficult to see in this picture but Polyphons have the Davoli brand and sometimes the Krundaal K-logo on the body.
