DeLacugo Excelsior electric guitar red sparkle finish

Finished in meticulous metalflake paints the curvy solid mahogany of the DeLacugo Excelsior resembles the tailfin of a futuristic hot rod. The Floyd Rose double locking tremolo is recessed to allow for pulling up a whole step. Electronics consist of a Seymour Duncan Custom humbucker in the bridge position, a Duncan 59 in the neck and a single volume and tone control. The tone control is also a push-pull coil tap switch for the humbuckers. The three piece maple neck has a fat profile giving a vintage feel.

Davoli Scarabeo

The Davoli Scarabeo is a rare Wandre designed electric guitar inspired (I think) by the scarab beetle. Dates from sometime in the 1960s. It has the Wandre/Davoli aluminium neck. Some examples have the Wandre "W" vibrato units. The W-stamped pickups look like humbucker sized but are quite likely to be single coils.

Harvey Thomas was one of the great American guitar designers and builders. This is an early example of his Century model - it has the typical heavy black sunburst style finish. Both the front and back have a German carve bevel, and the tuners are mounted on a curving line. Harvey made some of his own parts and this could be one of his own aluminum vibrato units -  with what looks like a Gibson Tune-o-Matic bridge. The controls are mounted in a raised box made of layers of cut-out plexiglass and set into a deep routed pocket.

Kawai Moonsault range of guitars

The unmistakeable moon shaped Kawai Moonsault electric guitar was first introduced in 1982. Production continued until the 1990s. The Moonault came in two variations, which differed in their electronics: one had active electronics and phase switches. The moon theme continued on the fretboard with phase-of-the-moon position markers. A clear plexiglass Moonsault was also available, called The Crystal Moon.

German made semi-hollow body electric guitar from the 1960s

The Hopf Saturn 63 is a German made semi hollow body electric. It has two teardrop shaped sound holes in the upper part of the guitar. These sound holes are trimmed with metal, and the body also has an inset metal trim. Pickups are two single coils with adjustable pole-pieces. The maple neck is attached with 3 bolts. The arched top is spruce and the rest of the body maple.

TOKAI TALBO WOODY

A wooden bodied version of the Talbo

Tokai introduced the Talbo Blazing Fire guitar in 1982. Talbo stands for "Tokai Aluminum Body" and the Talbo's body was made from solid aluminum with a hollow chamber under the pickuguard. In 1999, Tokai introduced the Talbo Woody which has the same great double teardrop body shape but with a hollowed out wooden body. Presumably this was cheaper to make than the aluminum version - and had greater appeal to the more conservative guitar players. The body is made from two hollowed out pieces of maple.

Tom Bingham's latest cigar box guitar is called "THE SLIMLINE".  It's only 32mm thick - but there's still plenty of room for a 5 way pickup selector switch and three strat pick-ups, The strings are anchored through the body and if you look closely you will see the pickup selector switch is mounted in a pickup holder and cover. In honour of the season Tom calls the hand finished headstock on this model the Valentine headstock.

EKO D-TONE

Eko D-Tone electric guitar

The body shape of the Eko D-tone is similar to the Ibanez Reb Beach model or the Daion Savage, but I also detect a hint of the Peavy Wolfgang / MusicMan EVH in the headstock, maple fingerboard and hardware configuration. The model was designed by Donato Begotti with the Rock guitarist in mind.

The scoop out of the bottom of the guitar allows you to rest it on the floor leaning against something without it falling over,
